I decided to do my blog a couple of days earlier this week mainly because I have a lot on my mind!... and because I am bored! LOL! Anyways this week of rehearsals was great. The show is coming together nicely and I am happy to be working with some really cool people. Today after rehearsal, I went on a walk to the reservoir here and saw a few bridges and streams! It was so beautiful! I've also continued with my research of the 70s. Ok... so after my director's recommendation, I watched Can't Stop the Music (aka the Village People's movie). I now understand why the reviews of the 1980 movie were so awful... because that movie was painful to watch!! Story line and acting hand in hand were BAD!! Sorry to be so harsh, but I heard from my other cast mates that Saturday Night Fever is the same way too... so this week, we've swapped and I will watch Saturday Night Fever and they will tell me how what they think of the VP movie. What I can say though is that the 2 dance scenes in Can't Stop the Music ( I Love You to Death and Milkshake) were great! Some really great ideas and styles, and the dancing was great... and that's about as good as it gets with that movie.
In my time of solitude, I deactivated my facebook account! (after having it for 5 years, I decided to take some time off!) It's very surprising, because I was really into it all these years, but I must say, it's been a week, and I do not miss it! I will reactivate it most likely sometime in the future since I have pics on there and that is a gateway for me to keep in contact with people, but for now, I am enjoying my time away from the hustle and bustle of the city and from addictive social networks!
Since I am so big on oldies music (even before this show), I decided to go youtube some more up-to-date artists just to see who people may be talking about. All I can say is wow... there just seems to be no limit to what can be shown in videos anymore... or what can be said. It saddens me a little... and some of it is really disturbing! Maybe I will come to like it one day, but as of right now... not so much. I just miss real, raw, authentic music, but I know there are artists out there today still keeping it real and bringing old school to new school (Jill, Erykah, India, Chrisette, Joy Denalane, Janelle Monae and others). I guess I am a bit of an old soul... and Whitney is coming back with a new album!! I've heard one song from it and it sounds great! I wish her the best!
Finally, I plan to find out the buzz in Christian music too! This time away (and living alone, so talking is a minimum) has helped me to just talk less and listen more. I think I have done a lot of talking to God, but it's now time for me to listen to Him. I think it also helps for me to preserve my voice... something I am really learning how to do these days.
Well, until next time... Peace and blessings to you and yours! Thanks for reading!
